Cable car operates from 13 June 2026 to 11 October 2026, daily from 08:30 to 17:00; the journey time is approx. 11 minutes.
In case of strong winds or adverse weather conditions, cable car service will be suspended. For up-to-date information, please call: +41 58 477 85 75.
We regularly receive requests regarding reservations and the transport of bicycles. Since the Sanetsch cable car is primarily an industrial cable car operated by the Sanetsch power plant, mostly run by the plant personnel, we keep administrative efforts to a minimum. For this reason, we do not accept reservations. The principle is: "First come, first served." Up to 4 bicycles can be transported outside the cabin per trip. Additional bicycles and e-bikes are carried inside the cabin—however, passengers without bicycles have priority.

KRAFTWERK SANETSCH AG RESTRUCTURES SUMMER OPERATIONS OF THE SANETSCH CABLE CAR – NOW WITHOUT VERBUND SUBSCRIPTIONS
The Sanetsch Cable Car is primarily an industrial cable car used for the operation of the power plant. Within the available framework, it can also continue to be used for tourism purposes.
During the 2025 summer season, demand increased significantly. With a transport capacity of approximately 40 passengers per hour in each direction, it was not possible to accommodate the higher number of visitors on peak days and during holiday periods. In order to align operations more closely with operational capabilities and to ensure reliable service, Kraftwerk Sanetsch AG is restructuring its offering. Starting with the 2026 summer season, the Sanetsch Cable Car will offer only one-way and return journeys.
Sanetsch Dam Maintenance Works
The Sanetsch Dam was commissioned in 1962 and is now more than 60 years old. The structure is part of Kraftwerk Sanetsch AG, which is currently jointly operated by BKW Energie AG and Energie Wasser Bern ewb, each holding a 50% stake.
As part of the regular maintenance work carried out on all structures of Kraftwerk Sanetsch AG, construction works will be carried out on the upstream side of the Sanetsch Dam until approximately the beginning of September 2026.
To carry out these works, the water level of the reservoir must be lowered to the required level. Once the works have been completed, the water level will be raised again in accordance with operational requirements.
BKW will commence the construction works on Monday, 20 July 2026. The works are expected to continue until the end of August 2026.
During the construction period, access to the dam will be closed. We kindly ask you to use the designated hiking diversion route.
